Family Visa

  • Partner Visa

The Partner visa allows the spouse or de facto partner of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to enter into or remain in Australia. The spouse or de facto partner is initially granted a temporary visa, and is eligible for a permanent residency visa if the relationship still exists after a two-year waiting period.

If you are engaged to an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, and you wish to travel to Australia for your marriage, you may be eligible for the Prospective Marriage visa, which allows fiances/fiancees to enter Australia in order to get married. Following your marriage you may then be eligible for the Partner visa, provided you meet the requirements listed below. Please contact us if you would like further information regarding the Prospective Marriage visa.

  • Parent/Contributory Parent Visas

    • The Parent and Contributory Parent visas allow the parent of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to enter into or remain in Australia. The child in question must be settled in Australia, and the parent must meet the 'balance of family' test.

The Contributory Parent visa differs from the Parent visa in that the parent is required to make an additional payment to the Australian government, in return for which their visa application is processed more quickly.

There is currently an extremely long waiting period (approximately 30 years from date of application) for the PARENT visa, due to the large backlog of applications and the fact that Australia only grants a certain number of Parent visas each year. The waiting period for a CONTRIBUTORY PARENT visa is significantly less, approximately 1-2 years from date of application.

  • Child Visa

The Child visa allows the child of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to migrate to or remain in Australia on a permanent basis. The child must be under 18 years old when the visa application is lodged.
